Bacterial Vaginosis

Odor Vaginal Discharge has an unpleasant fishy or musty odor
   
Discharge Discharge is thin, milky white or gray
   
Itching/irritation Vaginal itching/burning is sometimes present
   
Cause Caused by bacteria
   
Treatment Requires specific antibacterial treatment available only by Rx

Yeast infection (genital candidiasis)

Odor Vaginal discharge has no odor
   
Discharge Discharge is thick and white (like cottage cheese)
   
Itching/irritation Vaginal itching and burning is usually present
   
Cause Caused by yeast
   
Treatment Once diagnosed by health care professional, recurrent infections can be treated with over-the-counter products

Trichomonas Vaginalis

Odor Excessive vaginal dicharge and has an unpleasant fishy odor
   
Discharge Discharge may be yellow-green and frothy
   
Itching/irritation Vaginal itching and painful urination
   
Cause STD - caused by parasitic trichomonads
   
Treatment Requires a specific antibacterial treatment available only by Rx
